Profile suspended: – Masturbated on Zoom

The American magazine The New Yorker has suspended the profiled reporter Jeffrey Toobin.

The reason is that Toobin allegedly masturbated during a meeting on the video platform Zoom earlier this month.

It writes a number of American media, among them CNN.

It was Vice News who first mentioned the case. Two people who claim to have been part of the Zoom meeting have told about the incident to Vice.

Toobin is one of America’s most prominent legal analysts. He has worked for The New Yorker for more than 25 years, and is a forensic analyst for CNN.

– I’m sorry

“I made an embarrassing, stupid mistake, and thought I was out of the camera,” Toobin said in another statement Vice Monday.

– I apologize to my wife, family, friends and colleagues. I thought I had turned off the sound on Zoom. I thought no one in the Zoom conversation could see me, he added.

Toobin has not commented on the allegations that he masturbated.

Suspended

A CNN spokesman said: “Jeff Toobin has asked for some time off while addressing a personal issue, which we have agreed to.”

As mentioned, The New Yorker has suspended Toobin, and is now also investigating the case.

Several of the magazine’s employees, as well as employees of the radio station WNYC, are said to have participated in the Zoom conversation, according to The Guardian.

– Take it seriously

According to the newspaper, New Yorker editor David Remnick wrote the following in an email to his employees about the incident:

“Dear everyone. As you may have read in various media today, one of our journalists, Jeff Toobin, was suspended following an incident at a Zoom meeting last week. Rest assured that we take such matters seriously, and that we look at this ».
