Profile of William Wongso, Diplomat Rendang Who Becomes Mentor Gordon Ramsay

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – British celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay visits West Sumatra to film the television program “Gordon Ramsay: Uncharted”.

In the episode, Indonesian culinary expert William Wongso, became Gordon Ramsay’s mentor to study West Sumatra culture and culinary, especially rendang cuisine.

This program will air on National Geographic on Monday, June 29, 2020.

Born in Malang, Indonesia, April 12, 1947, with whom William Wirjaatmadja Wongso was now better known as William Wongso.

William Wongso is active as a consultant in the field of gastronomy, he founded many culinary businesses in Indonesia.

The man who is now 73 years old is also known as Indonesian Food Ambassador or Indonesian culinary ambassadors abroad.

The founder of I Love Indonesian Food (ACMI) has traveled and become a world-renowned reliable chef.

He has won a prestigious award and is nicknamed ‘Diplomat Rendang’. One of the awards that was won was the Medal of Honor (Medaille d’Honneur) from Academie du Pain Indonesia in Paris, Saturday (02/03/2018).

When he got the award William became the only Indonesian member of Elite de la Boulangerie International.

Elite de la Boulangerie International itself is a prestigious culinary club in the world. This club is a collection of the best bread makers in the whole world which currently has only 33 members.

Also on August 12, 2008 he received an award in the culinary field from Former Vice President Jusuf Kalla at the Vice President’s office.

He also wrote the book Flavors of Indonesia and finally won the prestigious international award “Best Cookbook of the Year” at the 22nd Gourmand World Cookbook Awards, which took place in Yantai, China, June 2017.

In 2015, this culinary practitioner worked on a state project. The Head of the Presidential Secretariat Darmansjah Djumala invited William to provide input on the state dish.

Until now William is still actively introducing Indonesian gastronomy abroad.
