jpnn.com, JAKARTA – Professor of the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) Prof. Bambang PS Brodjonegoro predicts that Indonesia will have the fourth largest Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in the world by 2050.

“The income figure is USD 28.934 million for 320 million residents,” said the former Minister of Research and Technology at the implementation of the New Student Initial Activity (KAMABA), University of Indonesia (UI) in a public lecture session entitled “Caring & Developing Indonesia’s Potential”.

According to him, in 2040-2050 Indonesia has the opportunity to become one of the world’s major economic powers, after China, India and the United States.

This is obtained through the demographic bonus, where the number of productive age (17-60 years) in Indonesia will be very large.

Prof. Bambang said that by 2050 electrification / total access to electricity in Indonesia will reach 1 million megawatts, health facilities will increase, tourist visits will reach 150 million people per year.

“To be able to achieve these predictions, this demographic bonus must be managed using education and mastery of information-technology,” said Prof. Bambang.

He also recommends new students at UI to have four millennial skills that will be very useful in the digital era, namely the ability to solve problems (problem solving), self management (self-management), cooperate with others (working with team), and the ability to understand technological developments (technology & development).

In addition, the former Head of the Development Planning Agency (Bappenas) stated that a fundamental change that Indonesia must make in the economic sector is to change the development paradigm.
