Products from Kitkat and Maggi at Albert Heijn not on the shelves for the time being

Products of the brands Maggi, Nescafe, KitKat and Garden Gourmet will not be found on the shelves of Albert Heijn in the near future. The supermarket chain has a conflict with parent company Nestlé over price increases for the brands. Due to the conflict, the food company has decided not to supply the products for the time being.

Negotiations with Nestlé have stalled, a spokesperson for the supermarket said. “Nestlé wants to implement price increases of more than 20 percent that are insufficiently explained by cost increases. We find this unacceptable for our customers,” a spokesperson for Albert Heijn told ANP news agency.

The chain annually negotiates prices with its suppliers. Because of the competition with other supermarkets, Albert Heijn wants to keep prices as low as possible.

Suppliers, in turn, are struggling worldwide with sharply increased prices for raw materials. Supermarkets find that the suppliers use inflation as an excuse to raise prices further than is actually necessary.

According to trade medium Distrifood, the supermarket chain is also in dispute with supplier Ad van Geloven, known for Mora’s frozen snacks. Albert Heijn says that those negotiations are now in the “concluding phase”. The supermarket chain expects to be able to supply Ad van Geloven products again soon.
