Productive-age residents in Sumedang vulnerable to dengue fever

The Head of Disease Prevention and Control (P2P) of the Sumedang District Health Bureau, Dr. Reny K Anton said residents of this productive age group are more susceptible to contracting dengue fever due to their high activity and weak immunity.

“The data in 2021 and 2022, most of the people infected with dengue fever are in the productive age group. This is because they are in the productive age, their outdoor activities are also high. On the other hand, their immunity it’s weak. So they get easily infected with the dengue virus, “Reny told a number of reporters during an information disclosure meeting. Reny said the number of dengue fever cases in Sumedang Regency in 2022 showed an increasing trend.

From the data that the Sumedang Health Bureau has collected up to September 2022, cases of dengue fever in the Sumedang Regency itself have reached 1,468 cases, with 14 deaths.

Previously, in 2021, there were 15 deaths out of a total of 1,331 cases. So, for 2020, there were 7 deaths, out of a total of 707 cases.

Meanwhile, from 2017 to 2019, the Sumedang Health Bureau found no cases of dengue fever death.

“The highest cases of dengue fever were found in several sub-districts. The biggest contributors were the sub-districts of Jatinangor, Tanjungsari and Cimalaka,” said Reny.

Reny said in previous years, cases of dengue fever usually occurred at the beginning and end of the year.

“But for 2022 we see that there is a different trend. Because cases of dengue fever are found every month,” Reny said.
