ProB: double success against the tropics!

Dresden Titans win at home with 83:71 (29:15, 19:16, 13:16, 22:24) against TSV Oberhaching Tropics | After the first leg on Friday it is the second success against Bayern and the third win in a row

Dresden, 24.01.2021 – The Dresden Titans also win the second leg against TSV Oberhaching Tropics, this time 83:71 in the Margon Arena. With their third win in a row, Dresden’s basketball players are confirming their claim to be the top team in the southern season of the BARMER 2nd Basketball Bundesliga ProB. Man of the evening was captain Georg Voigtmann, who in his second season for Dresden was able to mark the 500th career point as a titan and who decisively shaped the game with 24 points and 10 rebounds.

The game – The spectators were spoiled with offensive fireworks right from the start. A Dunk Voigtmanns, simple lay-ups in the fast break by Daniel Kirchner, Lenny Larysz and Sebastian Heck, who also netted from outside, ensured a total of 11 points and the lead after four minutes. The guests from Upper Bavaria, on the other hand, fought their way back into the game via drawn fouls after drives and corresponding free throws. But the dominance near the basket by Voigtmann and the substitute Aaron Kayser was always noticeable. Kayser’s old friend Arne Wendler from Chemnitz also played effectively and scored his first three. Lorenz Domrös then ensured his first ProB points on the line and helped to bring out an impressive 29:15 lead at the break. Domrös then directly followed up with a threesome and showed his qualities. Overall, the “Titans” played an attractive, fast ball and forced Tropics coach Mario Matic to take a break to discuss the deficits in his team’s switching behavior. Indeed, the measure was particularly fruitful for the young Hachingen talents Benjamin Schröder and Bent Leuchten. The 17-year-old Schröder in particular showed his potential with hard drives and a lot of bite. But Voigtmann had an even better afternoon, scored at will on the board, scored from the outside and put his teammates in scene with wonderful passes. Accordingly, the lead at halftime was clearly 48:31.

After the restart it was like Larysz on Friday, who reported back for Dresden with a long-distance throw from the cabin. Kirchner also unpacked the threesome and increased it to 20 points! However, the guests continued to show morale and started a small run. Above all, Leuchten shouldered a large part of the offensive load on his young shoulders with five throws hit in a row. The Titans, on the other hand, no longer carefully watched the leather, made seven ball losses and had to see the lead melted to 61:47. In the last quarter, the encounter then lost some of its offensive attractiveness. It was clear to the guests that they really wanted to fight their way back while the Titans sought their rhythm in the attack. Larysz and Voigtmann still found ways to score and forced Matic to timeout in the 35th minute, when the score was 69:51. However, the “Elbe Giants” no longer let the proverbial butter be taken from the “Bemme”. The outstanding Voigtmann delivered a few more respectable actions at the basket, mostly served in an exemplary manner by the master king Larysz. Leuchten and Schröder continued to impress with their talent and further hits. But they couldn’t change anything about the clear 83:71 final score.

Vote for the game – In the interview after the game, hall spokesman Olaf Kadner got a clearly satisfied Titans head coach Fabian Strauss in front of the microphone. When asked about the course of an intensive double game day, Strauss then revealed his secret: “Völkerball”, the famous Dresden coach with a smile. After the hurried return trip on Friday night, this was probably the first training measure on Saturday afternoon. “Of course, we then placed great emphasis on good regeneration, be it ice baths or the excellent work of our physios.” When asked about the game, the 27-year-old saw the advantages especially in the first half. “We laid the foundation for success there. This enabled everyone to get playing time. And the boys, who usually don’t watch that many minutes, were rewarded like this. In the end we downplayed the thing and brought it home. “

Statistics – Even if the Titans scored below average from the outside (7 out of 27, 26% 3s), the overall rate from the field was solid (29 out of 64, 45%). The rebound duel also went clearly to the hosts (46:36). In addition, the Titans distributed significantly more assists (25:14), even if they gave away the ball more often (19:17 TOs).
