Private expenses: County officials convicted of infidelity

A senior official from the Würzburg district has billed private gifts for work. Central question when pronouncing a judgment: Does he also lose his civil service status?

A shake of the head after the verdict was pronounced: “This is a license to rake off public funds,” said one process observer, assessing what he considered to be a mild verdict against a department head from the Würzburg district. As he himself admits, the latter had made use of the district treasury and repeatedly accounted for smaller private expenses. Flowers for the girlfriend, a container for a former classmate, cinema, meal or goods vouchers for the family or sweets for the colleagues. Again and again it was smaller private expenses that the 58-year-old had billed for on business.
