Minister of Justice Vincent Van Quickenborne wants prison staff to be vaccinated against the corona virus as a priority. That is also the question of the wardens’ unions, which this morning submitted a strike notice to this effect. The issue will be discussed on Monday at the inter-ministerial consultation between the Ministers of Health. Several prisons, including those in Dendermonde, are struggling with corona outbreaks. Yesterday it was also announced that a staff member of the prison in Ghent has died of corona this week. Minister Van Quickenborne understands the question from the trade unions. And the prison system is also urging to start vaccinating staff and detainees as soon as possible.
