Princess Claire’s Wedding Has Reached Hollywood: “Her Wedding Dress Inspired ‘The Princess Diaries’” | Instagram HLN

“Years before her actual marriage to Adam Shulman, Anne Hathaway was a beautiful bride in ‘The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement'” writes the Finnish historian on Instagram. “The actress played the role of Princess of Genovia, Mia Thermopolis, and her wedding dress was inspired by a true European princess: Princess Claire of Belgium. Both Anne and Claire wore nearly identical long-sleeved lace dresses. But the similarities don’t end there. Both brides also kept white bouquets and wore elegant hairstyles, with sparkling tiaras holding the veils in place.

Princess Claire and Prince Laurent got married in Brussels in April 2003. Claire’s wedding dress was a creation of Natan’s “supplier”, Edouard Vermeulen. The long train was that of Queen Paola and Claire wore earrings with diamonds and pearls to complete the look. A year later, in August 2004, “The Princess Diaries 2” was released in theaters. “I’m sure the costume designer on the film, Gary Jones, knew Princess Claire’s dress,” said Holma. “I wonder if Claire has ever watched ‘The Princess Diaries 2’ because she’d be surprised how much Mia’s dress looks like hers.”
