Prince Harry to “Megxit”: “Sorry that it has come to this”

A day after the Queen announced details of “Megxit,” Prince Harry comments on the retreat of him and his wife Meghan from the front row of British royals. He regretted that it had come to this, but he had “no other choice”.

The British Prince Harry has expressed regret when he left the role as a member of the closer royal family. “When Meghan and I got married, we were excited, hopeful, and we wanted to do something meaningful,” Harry said in a speech to Sentebale aid workers that was posted to the couple’s Instagram account on Sunday. “That’s why it makes me sad that it has come this far.”

After days of intensive consultation, Buckingham Palace had announced on Saturday that Harry and Meghan would be there from spring waive the title “Royal Highness” and will no longer take on official duties for the Queen. The British press speaks of a “tough Megxit”, a play on words from Meghan and Exit alluding to Brexit.

Harry and Meghan had imagined it differently

The two had imagined the whole thing differently, as Harry now confirmed. They would not have carelessly decided to step down from their role. The decision was made after months of discussions and years of “challenges”. However, he had no “other choice”.

Her hope was to continue the previous tasks for the Queen, the Commonwealth and the military, but to forego public funds. “Unfortunately, that was not possible,” said the prince.

He accepted that “knowing that it doesn’t change who I am or how determined I am.” He leaves everything he has known behind in the hope of a more peaceful life.

Prince Harry pays Queen “greatest respect”

For his grandmother, the Queen, he has the greatest respect. He was “incredibly grateful” to her and the rest of the family for the support they had given him and Meghan in the past few months.

Harry and Meghan will in future waive funds from the so-called Sovereigns Grant and will also repay the tax funds for the renovation of their house Frogmore Cottage in the amount of £ 2.4 million (about € 2.8 million).
