Prince Harry left the UK on Monday evening, according to several British media, to fly to Canada. He will find his wife Meghan there and his son Archie, whom he has not seen since the announcement of his withdrawal from the royal family.
The prince, sixth in succession to the throne, “took a flight at 5.30 p.m. from (airport) Heathrow” (6.30 p.m. in Switzerland), wrote the Sun, and “should find (his wife ) Meghan and (her son) Archie early Tuesday morning, “who are on Vancouver Island. The Daily Telegraph and the Daily Mail also claimed that Harry had taken off for Vancouver.
Questions remain numerous concerning the new life of the prince who, with “great sadness”, finds himself much more withdrawn from the British monarchy with his wife Meghan than he would have liked. How will the couple make money? Who will pay for their safety? What links will he keep with the British royal family?
Queen Elizabeth II announced on Saturday, less than ten days after the shock announcement of the “Megxit”, an agreement allowing her grandson to step back as he wanted.
Last royal duties
But the break will be more frank than hoped since the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, who wanted to keep a foothold in the monarchy, will no longer be “active members” of the royal family. They will no longer be able to claim their title of royal highness, although they retain it, nor officially represent the 93-year-old sovereign.
The 35-year-old prince, who remains sixth in the order of succession to the throne, will notably have to give up his military functions, to which he was attached.
Speaking publicly for the first time on the crisis it caused in the British monarchy, Harry admitted Sunday evening to be “very sad”: “We hoped to continue to serve the Queen, the Commonwealth and my military associations, but without public funding. Unfortunately, that was not possible, “he said at a charity dinner in London.
The Duke of Sussex left his country after a busy day in final royal duties. Harry made a long appearance in London, at a summit devoted to British investments in Africa, where he notably met in private with Prime Minister Boris Johnson.
