Prince Harry is going to court to provide British police protection

Prince Harry asks for legal assessment after the Home Office rejected his application for British police protection when he visits his home country, reports BBC.

– The goal for Prince Harry is simple – to ensure the family’s safety while they are in the UK so that his children can have a relationship with his home country, his lawyers write in a press release.

Prince Harry lost his right to tax-paid police protection after resigning from his royal duties in 2020, along with his wife Meghan, Duchess of Sussex. Now the prince points out that his private US security team does not have sufficient jurisdiction in Britain.

“Britain will always be Harry’s home and a country he wants his wife and children to be safe in. But with the lack of police protection, the personal risk is too great,” the statement said.

Will pay yourself

The prince himself has wanted to pay for any British security guards when he visits the UK, but has been rejected by the British authorities. At the same time, he is also not allowed to receive tax-paid police protection.

According to the prince’s lawyers, the Duke of Sussex inherited a security risk to his life as he is sixth in line to the British throne.

In addition, Harry has served in the British military in Afghanistan and his family has received countless threats since resigning from his royal duties two years ago, which his lawyers argue puts him in danger.

Have not met the queen

Harry himself has said that he wants to visit his homeland with his family more often, but that their safety must be guaranteed.

The lack of such protection is the reason why the prince visits his homeland so rarely, and why his wife Duchess Meghan and their two children, Archie and Lillibet, have not been to the UK since they moved to North America in 2020.

The daughter Lillibet, who is now seven months old, has not yet met her great-grandmother Queen Elizabeth, grandfather Prince Charles or others in the family in England.

The chase of photographers

The legal challenge in the High Court, which is equivalent to the British Supreme Court, comes after a security breach in London in 2021, when Harry’s car was chased by photographers as he left a charity event.

The prince’s lawyers have argued that despite Harry resigning from his royal duties in 2020 and his role in the British royal family having changed, his profile as a member of the British royal family has not.

“The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are financing a private security team for their family, but this security can not recreate the necessary police protection needed while they are in the UK,” they wrote in a press release.

Have been fighting for almost two years

If the award wins in court, he still wants to pay for police protection himself, so that it does not go beyond British taxpayers.

A spokesman for the British authorities has told the BBC that the UK security system is “strict and proportionate”, but would not provide detailed information about the scheme for the safety of individuals.

According to the prince’s lawyers, Harry hopes that his latest petition will resolve the situation, after being in the middle of a battle for security in his home country for almost two years.
