Prince Harry grew up in the public eye. Every step he took was accompanied and commented on by the British press. He was denied the liberties that other young men his age had – after all, as the grandson of Queen Elizabeth II, he couldn’t afford to make mistakes. They still happened during Harry’s days as a party prince. But the population did not really take it from him – at least not for long. A break between the Prince and the British only came when Harry announced in early 2020 that he would leave the Royal Family and step down as a senior member. In the eyes of the Royal fans, only one person was to blame for this decision: Meghan Markle. There is evidence that Harry had been flirting with the palace and serving under the crown for a long time.
Prince Harry “wanted out”
In 2017, in an interview with Angela Levin, he confessed that he was considering leaving the Royal Family. “I felt that I wanted to get out,” the young prince admitted at the time, like this “The Hollywood Gossip”. “But then I decided to stay and find a role for myself.” In the same year, Meghan Markle entered the life of Prince Harry, but she did not shake these wishes in her future husband, as Royal expert Kristen Meinzner reveals. “Back in 2013, after completing a four-month tour in Afghanistan – and long before Meghan was on the scene – he expressed similar thoughts.” Meinzner therefore suspects that military service would have opened Harry’s eyes and that he had decided at the time not to work for the Crown for the rest of his life. Only the US actress Meghan seems to have given him the courage and support necessary to implement his royal escape in 2020.
