Prince Charles’ favorite actor Antony Sher has passed away | Stars

entertainment">Sher was considered one of the best classical actors of his generation. He played major roles with the Royal Shakespeare Company such as Macbeth and King Lear. He also appeared as Shylock in The Merchant of Venice.

entertainment">Sher won the prestigious Olivier Award for his portrayal of the hunchbacked Richard III in the play of the same name. In addition to performing on stage, the British actor has appeared in dozens of major films, including Shakespeare in Love, Mrs Brown on The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug.

entertainment">Numerous big names from the British theater world expressed their sadness on social media on Friday at the loss of the acclaimed actor. The British prince said in a statement on Saturday that he was deeply saddened by the news that was announced on Friday evening.

entertainment">Charles knew Sher well because for many years he was part of the Royal Shakespeare Company, the theater of which the Prince presides. “I admired him immensely for the perfect way in which he performed his craft and played every role with passion,” said the prince. “I feel very blessed to have known him, but we have all lost a brilliant greatness of the theatre.”

entertainment">Charles wishes the Royal Shakespeare Company and Sher’s husband and director Greg Doran all the best. “They will feel the greatest sorrow at the passing of a great man and an irreplaceable talent.”
