Prices of Pertalite, Diesel & LPG Want to Increase, Here’s the culprit

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia The government again echoed the plan to increase the price of fuel oil (BBM) of subsidized Pertalite (RON 90) and subsidized diesel, as well as subsidized Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) for 3 kilo gram (kg) tubes.

After previously being disclosed by the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan and Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto, the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Arifin Tasrif recently disclosed.

Arifin said that in the medium term, the government will adjust the price of Pertalite and diesel oil, as well as 3 kg LPG in response to the spike in world oil prices.

“The strategy to deal with the impact of rising world oil prices, in the medium term… will be adjusting the price of Pertalite, diesel oil, and accelerating substitute fuels such as gas fuel (BBG), bioethanol, bio CNG, and others,” he said in a working meeting with Commission VII DPR RI, Wednesday (13/04/2022).

As is known, the price of subsidized Pertalite gasoline and diesel for the period of April 1 2022 has not changed, where respectively are still maintained at Rp. 7,650 per liter and Rp. 5,150 per liter. Meanwhile, the price of Pertamax (RON 92) has been increased to Rp 12,500 – Rp 13,000 per liter from the previous Rp 9,000 – Rp 9,400 per liter.

Meanwhile, the price of non-subsidized diesel has now been priced at IDR 12,950 – IDR 13,550 per liter for the Dexlite (CN 51) type. This means that there is a difference of at least IDR 7,800 per liter with the price of subsidized diesel.

Arifin said the spike in world crude oil prices as a result of the Russian attack on Ukraine since February 24, 2022, has also affected the increase in Indonesian crude oil prices (ICP).

ICP in March reached US$ 98.4 per barrel. This ICP is far above the state budget assumption, which only assumes US$ 63 per barrel.
