Prevents the development of cervical cancer

International Cervical Cancer Prevention Week marked for the 10th consecutive year in the Republic of Moldova.

Cervical cancer ranks 7th in the European region – the most common type of cancer among women. Every day in Moldova a woman is diagnosed with cervical cancer, and once every three days one gives up in the fight against this disease. In 80% of cases, premalignant neoplasms can be detected in the early stages and treated in time. Cervical cancer is most often caused by local infections and HPV (Human Pappilomavirus).

The cervix or cervix is the lower part of the uterus (cylinder-shaped 2-4 cm long and 2 cm thick) that connects to the vagina. The cervix consists of two different parts and is covered with two different cell types:

· Endocervix – the part of the cervix near the body of the uterus, covered with glandular cells.

· Exocervix or ectocervix – the part near the vagina, covered with squamous cells.

Cervical cancer is asymptomatic and does not manifest until the advanced stage. Usually, cervical cancer does not go away suddenly and is caused by certain factors. And here are some of them:

· HPV (Human Papillomavirus);

· HIV / AIDS infection;

· Virusul herpes of man tip 2 (genital herpesul, HSV 2);

· Chlamydia infection;

· Frequent change of sexual partners;

· Immunosuppression;

· Smoking – women who smoke have a 2 times higher risk of developing cervical cancer than women who do not smoke;

· Poor diet in fruits and vegetables;

· Early onset of sexual life;

· History of sexually transmitted diseases.

As mentioned above, cervical cancer has no symptoms, and lack of diagnosis and treatment leads to the spread of neoplasms – metastases, which means the advanced stage. In the advanced stage, the symptoms may be as follows:

· Pelvic pain in the lower limbs, pain in the lower back;

· Anemia due to abnormal blood loss;

· Unpleasant vaginal discharge;

· Pain during sexual intercourse;

· Bleeding between periods (menometrorrhagia);

· Sudden weight loss (several kilograms in a few weeks / months).

To avoid the stage when there are no more chances of cure, the woman should have an annual preventive examination at the gynecologist. As part of the European Cervical Cancer Prevention Week, the health network Invitro Diagnostics created the following screening packages:
