Al-Buri explained that osteoporosis affects women after menopause or advanced age, and it leads to weak bones and makes them more susceptible to fracture.

He pointed out that the symptoms of osteoporosis do not appear until after a fracture occurs, and early symptoms that may indicate osteoporosis include: pain in the back, neck, or hips, decrease in height, curvature of the spine, and difficulty standing or walking.

He continued that treatment for osteoporosis aims to reduce the risk of fractures, and treatments include: lifestyle changes, such as exercising regularly, following a healthy diet, and medications.

The consultant orthopedic surgeon stressed the importance of preventing osteoporosis by: eating a healthy diet that includes foods rich in calcium and vitamin D, exercising regularly, quitting smoking, and avoiding alcohol.

He called on women to undergo a bone density examination after the age of fifty to detect osteoporosis, and to take the necessary measures to prevent fractures.
