Rumors of Donald Trump’s Death Proven False
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Online speculation claiming the death of former President donald Trump circulated widely Saturday, prompting swift denials and reaffirmations of his continued activity. The false reports, fueled by the hashtags #TrumpIsDead and #whereistrump trending on X (formerly Twitter), emerged after a period of limited public appearances by the former president. The surge in misinformation followed a day where President Trump was not physically seen by White House reporters on Friday, but did engage on his Truth Social platform. The rumors also drew attention due to a recent meeting between Vice President J.D. Vance and Pope Francis shortly before the Pope’s death in April, prompting some to draw unsubstantiated connections. The Lincoln Project’s Rick Wilson amplified the speculation on X, referencing the Pope francis meeting.
Despite the online frenzy, Trump remains alive and actively engaged. On Saturday, he addressed a recent federal appeals court ruling regarding his tariffs via Truth Social, stating, “ALL TARIFFS ARE STILL IN EFFECT! Today a Highly Partisan Appeals Court incorrectly said that our Tariffs should be removed, but they know the United States of America will win in the end.” He further asserted, “If these Tariffs ever whent away, it would be a total disaster for the Country. It would make us financially weak, and we have to be strong.”
The incident underscores the ongoing challenges of combating misinformation in the digital age, notably surrounding high-profile political figures. While the source of the initial false claims remains unclear, the rapid spread highlights the potential for social media to amplify unsubstantiated rumors and create public confusion. The former president’s continued presence on social media and in the news cycle serves as a clear indication that reports of his demise where greatly exaggerated.
