President Andrzej Duda infected with coronavirus

Yesterday, President Andrzej Duda had a coronavirus test performed. The result turned out to be positive – said the presidential spokesman Błażej Spychalski. He assured that “the president feels good”. Spychalski added that in connection with the detection of the infection by the president, he himself was quarantined.

“Ladies and Gentlemen, according to the recommendations, yesterday President Andrzej Duda had a coronavirus test performed. The result turned out to be positive. The president feels good. We are in constant contact with the relevant medical services” – Błażej Spychalski, secretary of state in the President’s Chancellery, reported via Twitter RP.

The president’s spokesman added that he himself was quarantined in connection with the infection detected by the president.

“Due to the positive result of the coronavirus test at the President of the Republic of Poland, I would like to inform you that I am going to quarantine” – Spychalski informed.

The president visits the National Stadium

October 23, i.e. the same day on which, according to the information provided by Spychalski, the president’s test for the presence of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus was performed, Andrzej Duda showed up at the National Stadium, where work is underway to start a temporary hospital.

– This is a hospital that is supposed to provide security, if the pandemic continues to develop very quickly, very decisively, if there are no places for the sick in hospitals, then this temporary hospital at the National Stadium will be launched – said the president.

An entry about the visit of the head of state to the Stadium was posted on Twitter by the head of the Prime Minister’s office, Michał Dworczyk. There he published photos of the visit.

They show that Andrzej Duda was accompanied – in addition to Dworczyk – by Andrzej Zaczyński, MD, a neurosurgeon and deputy director for medical affairs at the Warsaw Ministry of Interior and Administration hospital, who oversees the construction of the temporary hospital and will be responsible for its operation.

Meeting with Iga Świątek

Also on Friday, October 23, the president met with Iga Świątek, the first Polish tennis player to win one of the four Grand Slam tournaments.

Andrzej Duda awarded the Polish tennis player with the Golden Cross of Merit for sports achievements, for promoting Poland in the international arena. He also honored the father of Iga Świątek, Tomasz Świątek, who received the Officer’s Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta from the hands of the president.

In addition, President Duda met that day with, among others, the tennis player’s training staff.
