Presenter fainted during British Conservative leadership debate

TalkTV/The Sun’s Showdown: The Battle for No.10/Reuters

NOS Newstoday, 01:07

The second debate over the British Conservative leadership election has ended early because presenter Kate McCann fainted during the broadcast. The debate was organized by the newspaper The Sun and the British channel TalkTV.

The broadcast was interrupted halfway through when candidate Liz Truss spoke about British support for Ukraine. Halfway through her answer, a loud crash could be heard in the background. “Oh my god!” cried a visibly startled Truss. Shortly afterwards, the broadcast was stopped and never resumed.

According to TalkTV, McCann is doing well, but a doctor has advised against continuing the broadcast. The program was actually supposed to be presented by two people, but one of them was unable to participate due to a positive corona test.

According to the organization, candidates Liz Truss and Rishi Sunak have stayed in the studio to talk to readers of The Sun, who were invited to the debate.

A day earlier they also had a debate, then at the BBC. That debate especially showed great division within the Conservative Party about the succession of Boris Johnson. British media, such as the BBC, are now writing that the tone of this debate was more conciliatory.
