Preparation of large-scale corona vaccination in full swing | 1Limburg

The Limburg GGDs are fully engaged in preparations for the large-scale corona vaccination in the province.

The spokespersons of GGD Limburg-Noord and GGD Zuid Limburg confirm this on Monday.

More clarity quickly
It is not yet clear what this large-scale vaccination program will look like. “I expect to get more clarity soon, perhaps already at the end of November”, says the spokesman for the North Limburg health service. GGD Zuid Limburg is still a bit cautious: “I don’t think we know that in the short term.”

Lightning fast
The developments surrounding the corona vaccine are going very fast. The vaccine from the Swedish-British pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca, which was developed in collaboration with the University of Oxford, is very promising. Pfizer’s American vaccine also shows good results.

Dependent
These recent developments ensure that the Limburg GGDs are busy with preparations for large-scale vaccination in the province. “For the concrete implementation we depend on the knots that are made nationally,” says the spokesperson for GGD Limburg-Noord. The spokesperson is referring to the decisions that the cabinet will take, after consultation between the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport (VWS) and the RIVM (National Institute for Public Health and the Environment).

Different scenarios
In any case, the GGD takes into account different scenarios: “Are we going to vaccinate a lot in a short time, or are we going to spread the vaccination over a longer period?”, Says the spokesman for GGD Limburg-Noord. “Only when a scenario has been chosen can we start looking specifically at which conditions, for example, the locations must meet in order to be able to administer the vaccines to the Limburg population.” The spokesperson for GGD Zuid Limburg adds: “And who will vaccinate? GPs? GGD personnel? Will it be done via health and safety services? Or a combination of these? These are all questions that still need to be answered.”

Priority
In the meantime, it has become clear that the government is choosing to give priority to the elderly and healthcare workers in the mega-vaccination program. The cabinet is thus adopting the advice of the Health Council.

Weekly meeting
Since the press conference on 17 November, consultations between all parties involved regarding vaccination of the population have intensified. The Limburg GGDs also join that consultation. “That takes place every week,” says the spokesperson for GGD Limburg-Noord.
