Have you ever had to lose a cat? Lieutenant Padrik of the Irish National Liberation Army thinks that is exactly what has happened to him. As it really was, and whether the story is really about the tomcat Thomas – all about it in the latest performance of the Valmiera Theater “Lieutenant from Inishmora”.
One day, Lieutenant Padrik leaves his comrades-in-arms in the Irish Republican Army and returns to Inishmore. He wants to find out what happened to his cat Thomas in the meantime. It turns out that the love for the cat is stronger than the love for the homeland, father, mother, family. No one who has offended over Thomas will be healed after a lieutenant in the Irish National Liberation Army finds out.
The play of playwright Martin McDon has received drama awards and has been staged in many parts of the world. He has declared that he has chosen the line between comedy and cruelty here, as one illuminates the other. Through cynical, black, crazy humor – too serious.
In the production of director Mārtiņš Eihe, the roles are played by Aigars Apinis, Januss Johansons, Mārtiņš Liepa, Meinards Liepiņš, Mārtiņš Meiers, Klinta Reinholde, Uldis Sniķers.
“I think that every spectator will see Tomasiņš in his own way. For some it will be cynicism, for others Tomasiņš will be misunderstood, for others – a boring life,” says actor Aigars Apinis.
