Brentford Defeats Manchester United 3-1 in Premier League Round 6
Brentford secured a 3-1 victory over Manchester United in the 6th round of the Premier League, climbing above united in the league table. Igor Thiago was the star of the match, scoring twice – in the 8th and 90+5th minutes – while Mathias Jensen added a third for the Bees. Benjamin Šeško scored his first goal for Manchester United,but it wasn’t enough to prevent the defeat.
Brentford, who had a slow start to the season with only four points from their first five games, took the lead early. A misstep from Jordan Henderson in defense allowed Thiago to capitalize, sending the ball past United goalkeeper Altay Bayındır.
Bayındır was kept busy throughout the first half, making saves from headers by Sepp van der Berg and Nathan Collins. Thiago doubled Brentford’s advantage shortly after, capitalizing on another opportunity.Šeško then pulled one back for United, scoring from close range against Caoimhin Kelleher. Despite the goal, United went into halftime trailing 2-1.
The second half saw Brentford maintain control, with Dango Ouattara testing Bayındır. A pivotal moment arrived in the 76th minute when Bryan Mbeumo was fouled in the penalty area,earning United a penalty. Bruno Fernandes stepped up to take it, but Kelleher expertly saved his shot, mirroring a recent miss against Fulham.
Manchester United failed to create any further significant chances, and Brentford sealed the victory with a late goal from substitute Mathias Jensen following a quick counter-attack.
Manchester United will look to rebound next week when they host Sunderland at Old Trafford. Brentford, simultaneously occurring, faces a challenging fixture against Manchester City.
