Bremen. Bremen’s economy and the churches welcome the decision of Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU) to withdraw the Easter rest period and to stick to the traditional regulation with shops and restaurants open on Maundy Thursday and Easter Sunday – as part of the Corona Ordinance. It was “the right decision to withdraw the proposal for an extended lockdown,” said Janina Marahrens-Hashagen, President of the Chamber of Commerce. From their point of view, the effect would have been minor and the economic damage enormous. Bernd Kuschnerus, Secretary of the Bremen Evangelical Church (BEK) said that the Chancellor’s decision to admit the planning error deserves great respect.
Mayor Andreas Bovenschulte (SPD) described the resolutions of the federal-state conference as “necessary”. In this respect, he regrets “that the federal government does not see itself in a position to clarify bindingly the questions connected with the extended Easter rest.” “The goal remains to reduce social contacts and mobility, especially trips abroad, to what is necessary in the next few weeks and especially over the holidays.”
