Practice game Ajax-RKC still without audience due to lack of license | NOW

Supporters are not welcome on Saturday between Ajax and RKC Waalwijk. The municipality of Amsterdam has not issued a permit for the duel in the Johan Cruijff ArenA.

Ajax applied for a license on July 15 for the exhibition games with RKC and FC Utrecht (August 13). However, the municipality had still not given formal permission on Monday evening, so the Amsterdammers are forced to play the game against RKC behind closed doors.

In total, nine thousand spectators would be welcome in the Johan Cruijff ArenA – approximately 17 percent of the total capacity. Since this summer, 55,500 people can go to the stadium, but due to the corona measures, Ajax may not even fill the stadium for a quarter.

It is not yet clear whether the practice match between Ajax and FC Utrecht can be played with the public next Thursday. The Amsterdammers will again contact the municipality for a permit.

The match against RKC (kick-off at 6:45 pm) on Saturday is Ajax’s first exhibition game in the run-up to the new season. The team of trainer Erik ten Hag starts the competition on Sunday, September 13 with an away match against Sparta Rotterdam.
