bandung, Indonesia – President Prabowo Subianto has directed officials to prioritize public service and avoid extravagance in the upcoming celebrations of Indonesia’s 80th Independence Day on August 17th. The announcement signals a shift towards a more grounded commemoration, acknowledging ongoing national priorities.

Speaking after attending the 2025 Indonesian Convention of Science, Technology, and Industry in Bandung, west Java, President Subianto stated, “We are projecting relatively modest celebrations, as we still have much work to do for the people.” This directive applies to all planned events, including potential invitations to foreign leaders.

The independence Day program will center around a series of public-facing events designed to foster national unity and optimism. The day will begin with a reenactment of the proclamation of independence at Merdeka Palace in Jakarta. This will be followed by a public feast offering food and drinks in the palace courtyard,and a similar event at the National Monument (Monas) square,culminating in an evening fireworks display.

A nighttime parade is also planned, featuring representatives from various government ministries, the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), the National Police (Polri), the Attorney General’s Office, and state-owned enterprises. Each participating institution will showcase vehicles decorated with themes representing their respective programs.

State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi,chair of the festivity committee,confirmed the parade will originate near Merdeka Palace. The President’s intention, according to Minister Hadi, is to inspire public hope and resilience in the face of current national challenges.

Indonesia declared its independence from Dutch colonial rule on August 17, 1945, following the surrender of Japan at the end of World War II.
