PPNI Opens Voice about Viral Confession of Nursing Students Containing Catheters

Jakarta

The Indonesian National Nurses Association (PPNI) has opened its voice regarding the viral video of a woman in a nurse’s uniform being accused of being unprofessional. It started with a video caption related to catheter insertion.

“When I had to install a urinary catheter/DC for a male patient. How beautiful is he, his age again,” reads the caption in the viral video clip, uploaded to the Twitter account @AREAJULID, Wednesday (1/6/2022).

This video was immediately flooded with blasphemy on social media. Some netizens even considered the actions in question including sexual harassment.

“Although the identity of the patient is not stated, this is considered sexual harassment,” responded one netizen @*****cih.

“It’s harassment, let alone the comments, it’s really disgusting,” said another.

PPNI General Chair Harif Fadhillah admitted that he had investigated the case further, later it was discovered that this woman was not a nurse but a student who was practicing in a Yogyakarta hospital. However, this incident became a lesson for PPNI to remind the importance of understanding the code of ethics, especially when using social media.

“After we investigated the person concerned has not become a nurse but is a nursing student, this is the responsibility of the institution,” Harif said when contacted by detikcom, written Tuesday (2/6/2022).

“However, professional organizations receive good input for the ethical learning process, including social media as a provision if you have graduated as a nurse,” she continued.

Harif said the woman had been given sanctions by the campus. This is in line with the statement from the Head of the Public Relations and Protocol Bureau of Unisa Yogyakarta, Sinta Maharani.

“Regarding this case, we have coordinated with the Head of Nursing Study Program and the Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences. That’s right, Unisa Yogya students. Nurse profession students,” he said when contacted secondsCentral JavaWednesday (1/6/2022).

“(We) warned / reprimanded the student regarding the content that had been created. Withdrawing students from their clinical practice,” he explained.
