Work is underway on a new film universe around the Power Rangers. Part of this ambitious plan is a whole series of films and television series.
In 2017, a first attempt was made by Paramount Pictures to revive the franchise. The film contained a good hint to a possible sequel, but that did not materialize. Now we are working on another reboot. It is said to be set in the 1990s and directed by Jonathan Entwistle.
New film universe
According to The Hollywood Reporter, it will be a new film universe that will tell a grand, overarching and interconnected story. It is not yet certain whether the main series in the franchise, which is in its 28th season and will air next year – Dino Fury called – is linked to these plans for a film universe.
It is difficult to judge to what extent the plans are realistic. Many attempts have been made in Hollywood to repeat the success of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. They were not always successful and none of those attempts could match the success. Whether the Power Rangers will succeed is very much the question.
