Potsdam: Cyber attack against CDU politician Götz Friederich

The Potsdam CDU politician Götz Th. Friederich has to defend himself against a cyber attack. As he announced on Facebook on Sunday morning, his account on this social network was apparently cracked.

Facebook-Account gehackt

As a result, the perpetrator apparently published and distributed his own political statements in Friederich’s name. The CDU man, who had held many important positions in the city association of his party in recent years, confirmed this to the MAZ. He is the chairman of the city parliamentary group and until recently was district chief. Last year he wanted to be elected as a candidate for the Bundestag, but failed because of Saskia Ludwig, and he was also unsuccessful as a candidate for Potsdam mayor’s office.

The hacked Facebook account is apparently just the tip of the iceberg. There have been massive attacks against him and other CDU politicians in Potsdam who are close to him on social media, reports Friederich. This included various disparaging posts or even “hate speech” that would have long since left the level of political debate.

Lagerstreit in the Potsdamer CDU

One can suspect a political adversary behind the deeds. For years there has been a dispute over the direction between liberal and strictly conservative camps in the CDU. This only became clear with the question of the Bundestag candidacy and is currently also playing a role in the question of Friederich’s successor to the party leadership.

It is unclear where the perpetrator got Friederich’s login data from or whether he gained access otherwise. He explains on Facebook: “Articles that were not written by me were illegally posted on my account. I’ll save myself the assignment and will take legal action. I oppose this action – as the CDU city faction has already explained – resolutely.

Hacking is a punishable offense

Logging into someone else’s profile on social media is considered a criminal offense. It is a violation of Section 202a of the Criminal Code: “Anyone who gains unauthorized access to data that is not intended for them and that are specially secured against unauthorized access by overcoming access security is subject to imprisonment for up to three years or with Fined. ”

Anyone who even changes data – for example in the friends list on Facebook – also violates Paragraph 303a: “Anyone who unlawfully deletes, suppresses, makes unusable or changes data is punishable by imprisonment for up to two years or a fine.” The attempt is also punishable.

To do this, however, the perpetrator must first be proven his act.
