The condition applies to the receipt of items at the postal company, not the crossing of the border and the registration of the item at the relevant airport – it must be taken into account that Latvijas Pasts warns from the moment the item is accepted at the airport to the time it is received by the postal company.

This information is important when planning to send holiday gifts outside Latvia so that the recipients in the respective countries can receive them in time. In turn, both local and foreign items must be received at Latvijas Pasts by December 20 in order for the company to be able to deliver them by Christmas.

In preparation for the end of the year, when the volume of postal items worldwide is growing several times, “Latvijas Pasts” invites to make timely purchases in local and foreign online stores, as well as send holiday greetings and gifts so that items reach recipients in Latvia and abroad by the upcoming holidays.

So far, such information has been provided by postal companies in about 30 different countries, but this number is likely to increase in the near future. An additional factor that will negatively affect the delivery options and deadlines this year is the impact of Covid-19, by narrowing the passenger air transportation by which postal items are delivered and restricting the delivery conditions in certain countries, emphasizes Latvijas Pasts.

Different countries have different delivery dates before Christmas in different countries: there are countries whose postal companies have to receive all types of postal items on a certain date in order to be able to deliver them on time, and there are countries to which different types of postal items have to be delivered on different dates. For instance, Estonian both letters, small packages and parcels must be received by post by 14 December, Lithuania by post – for letters and small packages until 15 December, for packages – until 16 December, Finland by post for letters and small packages – until 19 December, for packages – until 21 December, but Canadian by post – for small parcels until 4 December, for parcels – until 12 December, for letters – until 14 December.

Precise information on the countries whose postal companies must receive items for delivery by Christmas on certain dates is available at here.
