Ebit’s operating profit fell by 41.9 percent to EUR 33.3 million. This is due to virus-related business losses and additional costs as well as start-up costs due to bank99, which was launched in April, said Pölzl yesterday.
Advertising mail fell by up to 70 percent, while sales in the Branch & Bank division fell by 39.4 percent. The total sales of the majority state-owned company increased by 2.1 percent to 502.9 million euros.
In the parcel business, “there has been Christmas for eight weeks,” Pölzl reported. The volume increased by almost a quarter in the first quarter. The increased quantity and sick leave of the staff meant that there could be regional delays in delivery, said the Post boss.
Bank99, the successor bank of Bawag P.S.K. There are currently around 21,000 customers. Swiss Post was able to use the bank to fill the supply gap caused by the thinning out of its competitors’ branch networks.
There is no short-time work at Swiss Post – and none are planned. Pölzl: “On the contrary, we have our hands full.”
