No April Fool’s Day: From April 1st, Swiss Post will start with its new bank “bank99”. Post partners will follow on May 4th. A “Corona Crisis Bonus” will also be distributed to Swiss Post employees.
Austrian Post is launching its new bank99 on April 1st. Current accounts, payment transactions, credit cards, debit cards and savings products as well as online services are offered in 413 Post branches, as the Post announced on Tuesday. Post partners will follow on May 4th. Post employees have a premium of 200 euros because of the coronavirus crisis.

1,800 branches will be equipped with bank99
“We are starting with bank99 not only in spite of, but also because of the current situation in the country,” emphasized Post Director General Georg Pölzl. The branches and 90 percent of the Post partners are still open, which clearly underlines why it is important that the Post continues to offer banking services in the future. With its almost 1,800 branches, Swiss Post will continue to make a contribution to “local bank supply” in the country, it said in today’s announcement. The business hours of bank99 are identical to those of the post offices and thus the best in the industry.

From the second half of the year, products such as consumer loans, housing finance and insurance and pension products should also be added with and from partners.

Cooperation with BAWAG P.S.K. completed
Swiss Post spent a long time with BAWAG P.S.K. worked together, which ended its cooperation with the Postlers in autumn 2017. A planned partnership with the German FinTech Group did not materialize. In spring 2019, Swiss Post reached an agreement with the Grazer Wechselseiten (GraWe) and acquired 80 percent of the Brüll Kallmus Bank from it, which gave it the coveted banking license itself.

The state-owned, listed Post AG also announced today that it will distribute three million euros in special bonuses for employees in the operational business (branches, warehouses, etc.). That would be up to 200 euros per employee.
