Possible three criminal cases invalid due to misconduct of Limburg police officers NOW

The National Criminal Investigation Department investigates more than a thousand files of the Limburg police team Horst / Peel en Maas for criminal offenses. Suspects of misconduct by police officers have so far been found in three criminal cases, the Public Prosecution Service (OM) reports Tuesday after a report of The Limburger.

In June, five police officers in North Limburg were fired for misconduct, undermining and misuse of powers. Another four police officers faced disciplinary action.

According to the police, things have happened that “cannot get through”. There have been intimidation, undermining behavior, breaches of official secrecy and harassment.

The punitive measures are the result of an internal investigation into the police team Horst / Peel and Maas that started in April last year.

In total, the police submitted more than a thousand files to the Public Prosecution Service, in which the nine officers were involved between 2015 and 2019. The Public Prosecution Service checks whether the processes are in order. In case of criminal offenses by the agents, the file cannot be used in court.

In fifteen files, questions were raised about the behavior of the police officers, in three files a suspicion of a criminal offense was found.

According to the Public Prosecution Service, the investigation can last all year.
