Portugal has a total of 51,848 confirmed cases of Covid-19, 167 more than the previous day, reveals the epidemiological bulletin of the Directorate-General for Health (DGS) released this Wednesday, August 5th. The number of fatalities from the new coronavirus in the country has increased to 1,740, with a fatal victim in the last 24 hours.
The epidemiological bulletin released this afternoon indicates that, to date, 450,524 suspected cases have been recorded and 1,437 people are still awaiting the results of Covid-19’s laboratory tests. There are currently 397,239 unconfirmed cases after the analyzes, and 37,369 are under surveillance by health authorities.
DGS reveals that there are currently 18,854 cases registered in the North, 4,478 in the Center, 26,573 in Lisbon and the Tagus Valley, 902 in the Algarve, 170 cases in the Autonomous Region of the Azores, 118 in the Autonomous Region of Madeira and 753 cases in the Alentejo.
Currently, there are 384 inpatients, of which 41 are in Intensive Care Units (ICU) and 37,565 cases recovered in Portugal, 247 more than those recorded yesterday.
The total of 1,740 deaths, 829 were in the North, 252 in the Center, 607 in Lisbon and Vale do Tejo, 15 in the Algarve, 15 in the Azores, 22 in the Alentejo, with none registered in Madeira.
The DGS bulletin counts three female fatal victims and one male victim between the ages of 30 and 39, joining the two fatal victims, female and male, between the ages of 20 and 29, and there are currently six confirmed deaths below 40 years old.
There are also 10 female and 10 male fatalities between the ages of 40 and 49 years old. There were 39 male victims and 17 female victims in the age group from 50 to 59 years old, 107 victims between 60 and 69 years old male and 48 female, 207 male deaths and 131 female deaths between 70 and the 79 years. There are also 505 male victims and 660 female victims over 80 years of age.
The age group with the most confirmed cases is 40 to 49 years old (3,852 men and 4,737 women), with a total of 8,589, followed by 50 to 59 years old (3,372 men and 4,457 women), in a total of 7,829. There are 4,274 infected children and adolescents between 0 and 19 years of age. There are currently 23,172 men and 28,676 women infected with the new coronavirus.
The number of cases in the age groups between 30 and 39 years and 60 and 69 years has seen increases. The DGS bulletin assumes the existence of 4,026 infected men and 4,445 women between 30 and 39 years old, and 2,453 men and 2,744 women with confirmed cases between 60 and 69 years old. There are currently 3,973 women and 1,912 men over the age of 80 infected with Covid-19.
Also, the age group between 20 and 29 years of age has seen a considerable increase in positive cases, with 3,685 men and 4,244 women with positive cases to date. The age group between 70 and 79 years old checks 1,696 men and 1,900 infected women. There are 45 men and 33 women whose age is unknown.
In relation to symptoms, the most reported are cough (35%), fever (27%), muscle pain (21%), headache (20%), generalized weakness (14%) and breathing difficulties (10%).
