Portugal exceeds 41,000 confirmed cases of Covid-19 – Jornal Económico

Portugal currently records 41,189 confirmed cases of Covid-19 disease, 323 more than yesterday, according to the most recent epidemiological bulletin from the Directorate-General for Health (DGS). The number of fatalities from the new coronavirus in the country has increased to 1,561, which corresponds to six more deaths in the last 24 hours, according to official information released this Saturday.

In percentage terms, there was, therefore, a daily increase in deaths of 0.4% and an increase of 0.8% in cases of infection. The Lisbon and Tagus Valley (LVT) region has now reached 18,361 confirmed cases, a number 255 higher than yesterday.

The report counts, at this moment, 1,627 people awaiting the laboratory results of the tests and 26,864 recovered. However, 70 of the 442 inpatients are in intensive care units.

In terms of symptoms, less than half (37%) had a cough, 28% fever, 21% muscle pain, 20% headache, 15% general weakness and only 10% experienced difficulties in breathing. Regarding fatalities, 780 are men (455 of them over 80 years old) and 781 women (591 of them over 80 years old).

At yesterday’s press conference, the last of the week, the Minister of Health chose to reassure the population about the capacity of hospital units and stressed that the number of beds available at the National Health Service is sufficient for the country’s current needs. and that hospitals remain capable of “responding to whatever is necessary”, stressing that basic hygiene measures “should not be neglected”.
