Portraits of two LNSO concertmasters in the chamber music program

In the first part, flutist Tommāzo Pratola will play with pianist Agnes Egliņš, while in the second part, double bassist Oskars Bokanovs will perform with pianist Rihards Plešanovs. The program includes French, Italian and Czech music, as well as works by Andris Dzenītis, the resident composer of the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra.

Italian musician Tommazo Pratola has been the concertmaster of the LNSO flute group since 2019. The musician has won a special prize for performing contemporary music at the prestigious International Aeolian Wind Instrument Competition 2021 in Düsseldorf. He won the Severino Gaceloni Prize and the Italian Ministry of Education, Universities and Research Prize in November 2012 Arts Award (Matera). Tommazo Pratola participated in the Bayreuth Young Artists Festival (2015), Classical Music Festival Pacific Japan (2018-2019) and the Zermatt Music Festival (2018-2019).

Pianist Agnese Egliņa has won the Grand Music Award in the 2020 category For outstanding performance all year round and the Grand Music Award 2010 For outstanding work in the ensemble. The pianist has won several international competitions. As a soloist, she has performed with the LNSO, playing the piano concert of Alexander Scriabin with the conductor Olari Elts and premiering the piano concert of Kārlis Lāčs with the conductor Māris Sirmo.

Tommazo Pratola and Agnese Egliņa have chosen a French and Italian music program: compositions by Jean-Marie Leclera, Alfredo Casella, Francis Pulenka and Henri Dithey, as well as Andris Dzenitis’ opus Kali Yantra.

Oskars Bokanovs has been the concertmaster of the LNSO double bass group since 2017. Winner of several international competitions – won competitions in Brno (2010) and Blatna (2016), won competitions in Holice (2016, Czech Republic) and Wroclaw (2016, Poland). During his studies he obtained JVLMA and Swedbank Annual Award for Young Musician 2014. Pianist Rihards Plešanovs gives solo concerts in Switzerland, Italy, France, the Netherlands, Russia, etc. As a soloist he performs with Kremerata Baltica, Sinfonietta Rīga, Liepāja Symphony Orchestra and LNSO, collaborates with the Latvian Radio Choir, Quadra musician.

In the reading of Oskars Bokanovs and Rihards Pleshanovs, listeners will hear the opuses of Czech authors Adolf Mišek and Fantišek Hertl, as well as Andris Dzenītis Iron-Wood.
