Portland Prepares COVID-19 Testing Centers for Surge in Demand

PORTLAND, Pray. – Multnomah County health experts said they are working with community groups to set up additional centers for further testing for COVID-19.

Meanwhile, the county is working on logistics as the omicron variant spreads through the region.

“In the coming weeks, we will not be able to cope with COVID-19 testing and contact tracing. The virus can double every two to three days,” said Dr. Jennifer Vines.

In the next few days, the county will have more information on coronavirus testing.

Clinic staff like ZoomCare report that they are seeing an increase in demand for tests. Since every insurer is different, be prepared to discover that your insurance does not cover a travel-related test.

The Curative group partnered with the Oregon Health Authority (OHA) to offer free tests at 22 sites across the state, including the Oregon Convention Center.

Curative’s chief operating officer said he expects demand for tests to increase starting in January.

“The state has really removed all the obstacles to people getting the evidence they need. Therefore, it has no cost to the individual, although we always request public or private insurance that an individual may have. They don’t have to use it when they visit our sites, “said Blake Lackey.

Vines said the home tests are reliable enough to be useful, but notes that no test is a guarantee.
