PORTLAND, Pray. – Portland police arrested 15 people Sunday night after a demonstration at the North Subcommandery, where fires broke out in the street.
The protest began at 9 pm with a march in Alberta Park towards the northern subcommander.
Authorities reported that the protesters chanted “burn it down.”
The protesters grabbed mattresses, dragged them onto the street and lit them.
Police warned the crowd not to enter the subcommander’s property otherwise they could be arrested, fined or hit with crowd control munitions.
Officers closed Southeast Emerson Street between Northeast Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and 6th Avenue.
On Saturday night, police declared a riot zone after a meeting that began in Ventura Park turned violent. Police used tear gas to disperse the crowd after they said people threw Molotov cocktails and one person’s legs caught fire.
