Portadown house fire: Brother accused of murdering sister and attempting to kill niece

A man has been accused of murdering his sister and attempting to kill his niece in a house fire that took place in Portadown. It has been a shocking and heartbreaking incident that has left the community in disbelief. The accused individual has appeared in court and the investigation is ongoing. In this article, we will delve into the details of this tragic event and the aftermath it has caused.

On March 21st of this year, 25-year-old Kornelijus Bracas was charged with the murder of Alesia Nazarova and the attempted murder of her 12-year-old daughter. The charges came after Alesia Nazarova was found dead in a house fire on Church Street in Portadown, Northern Ireland. Her daughter was rushed to the hospital but has since been released and is now under the care of her aunt.

During his appearance at Lisburn Magistrates Court, Bracas was dressed in a gray prison issue tracksuit and had his left arm in a sling. He was also charged with arson of the house he shared with his sister and theft of her bank card on the same day.

Detective Inspector Armstrong stated that he believed he could connect Bracas to each of the offenses. A prosecuting lawyer requested a four-week adjournment while investigators prepare a full file. Defense solicitor Gabriel Ingram did not apply for bail, and the case was put back to April 21st. District Judge Mark Hamill decided to remand Bracas into custody.

Alesia Nazarova, a mother-of-one who had recently moved to Northern Ireland from Eastern Europe, was described by friends as a kind young woman who deeply loved her family. She was always willing to help others in need and especially loved her daughter, who is left without a mother after the tragedy. A charity group is accepting donations to help Alesia’s daughter in the aftermath of the blaze, which they said left her with “nothing.”

Police have appealed for anyone with further information to come forward. This case is another stark reminder of the importance of community and support for victims of crime, particularly in cases of domestic violence, where families are devastated by senseless and violent acts. It is crucial for individuals to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious activity, as timely interventions can save lives. Our thoughts go out to Alesia’s family, friends, and loved ones, as they navigate this trying time.
