Pornhub Sues 34 Victims for Alleged Illegal Sex Videos

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

At least thirty-four women sued Pornhub and its parent company, MindGeek on Thursday (17/6). They alleged that the site knowingly took advantage of video sex illegally taken without the consent of the victim (non-consensual).

Non-consensual sex is sex that is carried out without the consent or knowledge of both parties. This occurs due to the person being unconscious, such as fainting, sleeping, and being under the influence of alcohol and drugs.

Quote from CNNBusiness, 34 victims alleged that Pornhub’s parent company MindGeek had monetized sex content taken from non-consensual relationships.

The lawsuit was filed through law firm Brown Rudnick LLP on behalf of 34 victims of sexual exploitation, including minors, victims of rape and human trafficking. In this lawsuit they demand compensation and protection.

Michael Bowe as a lawyer representing the victims said that the online pornography industry has not really implemented the applicable regulations. They operate like a sex business in the Red Light District.

“This is a case of rape, not pornography,” the complaint reads.

They accused Pornhub of taking advantage of videos made without their consent. The lawsuit lists only one plaintiff’s name while the other 33 are anonymous. An anonymous plaintiff in the lawsuit said that a video of him posted on the Pornhub website ruined his life.

“It is time for companies and individuals who took advantage of non-consensual and illegal content to be held accountable for their crimes,” the plaintiffs said.

“I join the victims because I seek justice for myself and the countless victims who didn’t come.”
