[POPULER SAINS] The Dangers of Cow Manure Bathing in India

KOMPAS.com – The spike in Covid-19 cases that has not subsided in India has made residents queue to bathe in cow feces and urine.

They believe, cow dung can ward off the corona virus and make people who have Covid-19 recover.

Of course this belief was opposed by Indian doctors. There is no scientific evidence to show its effectiveness in warding off Covid-19. Instead of recovering, it can actually trigger other diseases.

1. A question of trust cow dung bath ward off Covid-19

Amit Dave/Reuters Many Indians believe that smearing the body with cow urine and dung can ward off the coronavirus that is currently widespread in the country. Indian doctors insist, this practice is wrong.

Doctors in India have warned that the belief in bathing cow dung to ward off Covid-19 is of no benefit.

The doctor stressed that this practice was not based on scientific evidence. Instead of being immune to the virus, smearing your body with cow dung is at risk of spreading other diseases.

Doctors and scientists in India and around the world have repeatedly warned against practicing alternative medicine for Covid-19.

They emphasized that practices like this can provide a false sense of security and actually complicate health problems.

“There is no concrete scientific evidence that cow dung or urine can increase the body’s immunity to fight Covid-19. This is completely a myth, “said Dr. JA Jayalal, national president at the Indian Medical Association Reuters, Tuesday (11/5/2021).

“What exists is that there is a health risk if someone smears cow dung and urine on the body. Other diseases can spread from animals to humans. “
