Pope Francis largely left the reading of his Sunday message this morning to an aide. Yesterday it turned out that he had the flu, now he has announced that he has a respiratory infection.
Francis appeared in a wheelchair in the Vatican chapel, from where he gave the blessing. Normally he does this at the usual window on St. Peter’s Square. For that he apologized to the people who had come before him. The blessing and the speech by a priest could be followed on large screens.
The Pope read out that he will simply go to Dubai on Friday to attend the UN climate conference COP 28. He will give a speech there on Saturday. He called climate change a major problem, especially for young people.

Yesterday, a lung scan was made for Franciscus, who will turn 87 next month. No pneumonia was found. The Vatican did not elaborate further today. The Pope had a bandage on his hand with an IV attached to it. Questions from the AP news agency whether he is receiving medication through an IV have so far not been answered.
In March, the Pope was hospitalized for three days with pneumonia and bronchitis. He was also operated on for pneumonia at the age of 21, due to a lack of antibiotics. Then a small part of his right lung was removed.
