Popular Ukrainian singer Olya Polyakova debunked the myth of Russian propaganda about the oppression of the Russian-speaking population in Ukraine, which supposedly needs to be protected.
So, the star gave a short interview to Russian journalist Ksenia Sobchak, who does not tell the truth about the Russian war in Ukraine. Talk published on YouTube channel “Caution: Sobchak”. The conversation took place at the home of blogger Nika Belotserkovskaya in France, who received Polyakova and her daughters at her villa and condemned Putin at the start of a full-scale war in Ukraine.
Polyakova noted that she herself is half Russian, the owner of a Russian surname. The singer emphasized that before the war there was not a single Ukrainian song in her repertoire – the repertoire was completely Russian-language.
“Two years ago I assembled a 35,000-strong stadium in western Ukraine in Lviv. This is to talk about the fact that it was impossible to speak Russian in Lviv, that the Russian language was oppressed. I am a completely vivid example: I am half Russian, with a Russian surname, which sang in Russian, had an incredibly large army of Ukrainian fans who love me, who know me, collect my stadiums,” she said.
Polyakova answered Sobchak’s question whether she would sing in Russian after the war.
