Politics: Walter Martos: It would be a tremendous irresponsibility to come face to face

The President of the Council of Ministers, Walter Martos, considered that it would be a “tremendous irresponsibility” to reach a confrontation between the Executive and Congress while the people “are dying” due to the coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19).

On TV Peru, he noted that “needlessly” A political crisis has been added after denying confidence to the Ministerial Cabinet chaired by Pedro Cateriano, who lasted only 20 days in office, and assured that in his case it is a “Totally democratic person who thinks about the country”.

“Right now we need a lot of openness from both the Executive and the Parliament, because it is not about reaching a confrontation between the two powers while the people are dying. That would be tremendous irresponsibility. I have the highest respect for the congressmen ”he expressed.

In that sense, he remarked that his cabinet is going to be “Quite pragmatic and approaching the population”although he admitted that maybe the “experience” and the “heart” That he put himself into the work will not be enough to help all Peruvians.

“We regret what happened in the vote of confidence, but we have to move on. The President is aware that we have little less than a year to complete his mandate and in the midst of this crisis we need concrete, pragmatic and short-term things to be done now ”he emphasized.

Regarding the permanence of the Minister of Education, Martín Benavides, the Prime Minister emphasized that the reform of educational quality in universities is not a “whim” of the Government and said that his continuity in office is due to projects that are already underway.

“The quality of education is not a whim of the Government, it is a need of all our children and of our children’s children. We have to give future generations a better educational quality than we have had. The Minister of Education has the vision of having educational centers with standards that guarantee that quality of education ”he stated.

“Not only has he stayed because of that, he has stayed because there are many projects that are underway and at that moment changing the minister would be so that the other comes to know, is late and with this pandemic and with everything we are experiencing , we can not do it”he added.

About the Minister of Economy and Finance, Marie Antoinette Alva, Walter Martos I consider that “She is an excellent professional, very capable” and that a possible change would involve several things, since the new or the new head of the sector would come with his own vision and with his entire work team.

“In this pandemic, with this economic management, with the reactivation, it would be disastrous to change it at this time. It is capable, it is handling the pandemic accordingly and changing it would take us a long time to resume. We are in a war and we cannot stop to make changes, but we must continue “, he said.
