Policewoman seriously injured after blows to the head in Brussels cell complex

In the detention center of the Brussels local police in Rue Royale, a young policewoman was seriously injured on Tuesday afternoon when a detainee violently resisted. Sudpresse reports this and the news is confirmed by the Brussels police and the public prosecutor’s office. The officer was taken to hospital in critical condition.

The incident occurred between 4:30 p.m. and 5 p.m. when the police brought an arrested person into the cell complex, says police spokesman Ilse Van de Keere: “That person violently resisted his detention and severely beaten our colleague. An MUG team arrived on the scene and she was taken to hospital in critical condition.”

The chief of police of the Brussels local police chief of police Michel Goovaerts also went to the hospital to receive the family of the agent, said the police spokesman. “Our stress team has also been called in to help colleagues who need it.” The Brussels public prosecutor’s office has been informed of the incident, but will not comment further on the facts and the investigation until tomorrow/Wednesday.
