Police search for parents of boy found wandering down the street in Florida

Miami – Police in the city of Miramar, in Broward County (Southeast Florida) continue the search for the parents of a boy who was found wandering around the street last Sunday, and that nobody has claimed for more than 24 hours after issuing an official alert.

Miramar police spokeswoman Tania Rues was amazed at how “unusual” this case is.

“An hour, two, three hours, generally someone shows up at that time saying they know who the child is, or maybe a parent is the one who shows up. So it’s quite unusual that more than 24 hours have passed and we still don’t have any information. ”Rues said Monday at a press conference.

But earlier, first thing on Monday, the local police issued an update on the status of the case: “We are very concerned considering that we are approaching 12 hours since the child was located,” the authorities note.

Last Sunday, the Miramar police were alerted to a boy of approximately two years who was alone near 18th Street in the southwest and 68th Avenue.

According to authorities, officers spent more than 90 minutes touring the area and knocking on houses in the area to find someone who could give a reason for the boy, hoping to find a parent or guardian.

But they did not get an answer, so the minor is now in the care of the federal Department of Children and Family.

“He is a playful boy and is waiting for someone to come looking for him. No one knows his name, ”Ebony Williams, who found the boy, told CBS channel 4.

“He is very nice, very kind. I asked him, ‘Where’s your mommy?’ She just pointed a bit everywhere. I reached out my hand to him, he grabbed my hand and just walked around the complex expecting to find someone looking for him and calling him by name, ”Williams said.

The woman, a mother of four, on Sunday found the boy alone near the busy Miramar intersection.

“I am not a hero, I am nothing else. I’m just a mother who saw a baby, “said Williams, according to CBS.

The Police have distributed to the media a video where the curly-haired boy is seen playing with a curtain, supposedly inside a police station.

The little boy is wearing diapers, a black T-shirt, a stuffed toy and a toy dinosaur in his hands.

Lori Rodríguez, who helped search for the boy’s parents, told Local 10 that a neighbor had seen him wandering around and had been asking if anyone knew anything about him.

“We walked and looked to see if anyone was nearby. None of us had ever seen the baby before, ”said Rodríguez.

The authorities, who keep an Amber Alert active (for missing children), have distributed the Miramar Police number, (954) 602-4000, to collect information.
