Police Northern Netherlands released camera images on Thursday evening which may show the men who were involved in the stabbing incident in Groningen on Wednesday evening.
One of the men stabbed a police officer when the suspects in the Van Houtenlaan were approached for breaking the curfew. He is very seriously injured in hospital. The policeman received several stitches in the face and one in the neck, near the carotid artery. He’s fighting for his life. His colleague sustained injuries to one leg.
Men who meet the description that the police released earlier can be seen cycling on the sidewalk on De Savornin Lohmanlaan. They cycle at the Beethovenlaan, which is near the place where the stabbing took place.
Police with might and main looking
Since Wednesday evening, the police in the Helpman district has been looking for the perpetrators. On Thursday, the police did their utmost to investigate, among other things by asking residents in the surrounding streets door-to-door if they had seen more and if they had cameras installed.
The police had additional information about the men’s appearance:
- the man on the right of the photo is wearing a dark cap and a dark backpack. He carries the backpack on his back, but it is also fastened with a strap over the chest;
- the man on the left in the photo is probably wearing a quilted jacket that looks a bit lighter in color than the jacket of the man on the right. A hood is attached to the jacket, but he also seems to wear another hood over his head.
The bicycles left the men as they fled. The police already distributed photos of this on Thursday afternoon . The police are still looking for more footage. As soon as this is there and more leads come from it, it will be shared.
