Police raid illegally opened café in Leeuwarden, fined 15 people | NOW

The police and enforcement of the municipality of Leeuwarden raided an illegally opened cafe in the city on Saturday. Fifteen people, including the operator, were fined 95 euros. There was also illegal gambling inside. The same day, an Eindhoven café that announced last week to reopen its doors on Sunday decided to abandon its plan.

The municipality and police had received several signals that the company at Willem-Alexanderplein in Leeuwarden was open despite the corona measures.

Upon arrival of the officers and enforcers, it turned out that the company was not only open illegally, but that illegal gambling was taking place, tobacco and weed were being smoked, and a space was used for which no catering permit had been issued.

All fifteen attendees received a fine of 95 euros for violating the corona measures. The operator will be questioned later.

Eindhoven restaurant that announced opening is closed after all

The Eindhoven restaurant De Kiet, which announced a week earlier on Sunday that it would allow guests again, despite the measures, announced on Saturday that it would return to this decision.

“To prevent a media circus in our street, we choose to only open for takeout and delivery on Sunday,” said both owners on Facebook on Saturday.

The restaurant opened last Sunday and De Kiet was full of guests despite the lockdown. The municipality intervened and issued a final warning. When the restaurant opens again, the municipality will put the lock on it.
