Police Officer Assaulted,Vehicles Damaged Following Strabane Disturbance

Details of the Incident

A police officer sustained an injury, and three Police Service of Northern Ireland⁤ (PSNI) vehicles were damaged following a public disturbance in Strabane,⁢ County Tyrone. The incident occurred in the Railway ⁤Street area at approximately 2:00 AM on sunday, ‌August 31, 2025.

According to a⁢ PSNI statement, officers were initially responding ⁤to reports of an altercation involving multiple individuals.

Officer Assaulted,Suspect in Custody

While intervening to⁤ de-escalate the situation,an officer was ⁢punched in the arm. One man was subsequently arrested on suspicion of common assault, assault on police, and disorderly behavior. He remains in police custody as investigations⁤ continue.

Vehicles Vandalized

Upon returning to‍ their vehicles, officers discovered notable ⁤damage.Two vehicles had wing mirrors damaged, while a third sustained a dent ⁣to the boot and had its number plate⁤ removed.

The PSNI ⁢confirmed that one vehicle has been temporarily withdrawn from service ⁢for ​repairs, reducing the number of available patrol vehicles in ⁤the area.

Detectives are appealing to the public for assistance in their investigation. Anyone‌ who witnessed​ the incident, or who possesses relevant dashcam, mobile phone, or other ​footage, is urged to contact the PSNI on 101, quoting reference number 206 of 31/08/25.

We would appeal to anyone who may have witnessed this damage take place, or who may have dashcam, mobile or ⁢other footage that could assist with our investigation, ‌to contact police.
