Police Magdeburg: Entry bans for several people at Corona demos

The Magdeburg Police Inspectorate has banned several participants in the Corona protests from entering large parts of the old town. This applies to Monday evening. For this, a protest against the Corona measures is called for again.

According to a spokeswoman for the police inspection, a double-digit number of people have received such a letter. They have called for meetings in the past or are accused of having committed acts of violence there. Those affected had previously reported about it on social media. In the event of an infringement, the police threaten a fine of 500 euros. Similar measures had previously been taken in Halberstadt, for example.

The Magdeburg AfD city councilor Ronny Kumpf, for example, was banned from entering. In the past, Kumpf had called for meetings called “walks” several times, citing a rejection of a possible compulsory vaccination and the 2G regulation. According to their own statements, the police found his personal details during one of the protests. Kumpf wants to defend himself against the ban by means of an urgent application. A colleague of Kumpf’s group is said to have received a ban on entering the building on Monday evening.

General decree restricts unregistered meetings

Political gatherings are not banned in Magdeburg, but are partially restricted. By general decree, the police have stipulated that rallies and protests must be held at a fixed location, with a minimum distance and with mouth and nose protection – unless they are registered.

These regulations were only renewed on Friday. So far they have only been partially enforced. In the end, the authorities dissolved the meeting. Violent clashes broke out several times, and the police used pepper spray. In isolated cases, both officers and participants were injured. The authorities initiated various administrative offense and investigation procedures.
